Today more than ever we need your support to help us. Each day we deliver over 1,000 meals locally. Our network of trusted volunteers delivers nutritious meals, and builds personal and community connections.

Today we are seeing a growing number of seniors who are unable to meet their basic needs. Our services allow seniors to get regular, nutritious meals, to remain in their homes and live with dignity.

Meals On Wheels is locally focused, and our volunteers are trusted neighbors and friends. There are many ways to get involved, to help us end senior hunger today.

In 1863 after a hard year on the battlefield for the Union, President Lincoln declared the last Thursday in November to be a national day of Thanksgiving. This had been a custom amongst many of the states prior to this time, but the President acted with a proclamation stating,”The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies….In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict.”

Today we must remember that this was done after both Gettysburg and Vicksburg were both fought at terrible cost in lives and materiel. Our military is again engaged in conflict the world over, Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines defend freedom at the cost of their lives. As we consider the magnitude of what gratitude means for us remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice on our behalf. Whether lay in Normandy, Panama, the Philippines or Arlington many have given their all so we can be free.

It is a fact that the Armed Forces of the United States defend our freedom. I am grateful for those veterans who have defended freedom in places far from home. Whether at Shiloh, the Argonne Forest, Tarawa, Okinawa, the Huertgen Forest, Baghdad or the Khorenghal Valley.

President Lincoln summed up by saying, ” And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers … in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.”
